It's official! Our ballot referendum is headed to the ballot box.
Protect Girls' Sports In Maine
What We're Fighting For
The Protect Girls’ Sports in Maine ballot referendum will ensure that sports participation and private facilities in schools are designated by sex. Absolutely everyone gets to play sports, and everyone gets access to single-sex spaces.
More than 82,000 Mainers signed our petition. The Maine Secretary of State has confirmed that we have far exceeded the required signature count. The Protect Girls’ Sports in Maine Act is now officially headed to the November 2026 ballot — and
Maine will be among the first states in the nation where voters can protect female sports at the ballot box.
The Maine Principals’ Association and the State Legislature have refused to act. So, we — the citizens of Maine — are doing it ourselves. This isn’t political. It’s just about as democratic as it gets.
Now we need your help to get our message out, get voters to the polls, and win in November.
WHAT THE ACT DOES
Everyone Plays.
No One Is Banned.
Our act requires schools to
designate athletic teams by
sex: male, female, and co-ed.
Every student has an
opportunity to compete.
Nobody is excluded. Sports are
organized fairly and safely for
everyone.
Private Single-Sex
Spaces Are Protected.
Private facilities like bathrooms, locker rooms, and showers will be designated by sex. Females and males both deserve privacy and safety in their own spaces — and this act guarantees it.
Not Political.
Just Common Sense.
This is the most democratic
process possible. When the
bureaucrats in Augusta refused
to act, the citizens of Maine
stepped up. Now, this question
goes directly to the voters and will be decided by a majority of Mainers, not by politicians.
All Students Ensured
Equal Protection.
This act ends sex-based
discrimination in Maine schools by giving sex equal protection and opportunity under the law. It also ensures full legal protections under the ADA for individuals with verifiable differences in sex development.
